New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.
The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. Bernards take first county title for baseball in 27 years; Zach DeLeon is MVP.
The Bernards High School baseball team was considered an underdog going into Monday night'ss Somerset County Tournament final versus perennial powerhouse Immaculata High School from Somerville. But the tenacity and solid team play of the Mountaineers earned team members their first SCT title since 1986. Bernards' Zach DeLeon, who pitched and also batted in three runs, was named the tournament's MVP. The game was played at TD Bank Park in Bridgewater. Immaculata broke the ice on the field, scoring a run in the first inning, but Bernards would counter with two runs of their own in the 3rd inning off of two walks, two hits and an error. It was neighbor against neighbor on Wednesday.
The No. 7 Ridge High School Red Devils boys lacrosse met up with neighbor no. 19 Bernards High School on Wednesday afternoon for a Somerset County quarterfinal match. The host team ended up sending Bernards home with a decisive 19-7 defeat. Ridge was lead by Owen Molloy with 5 goals, J.T. Palladino with 4 goals and Eric Scott with 4 goals. Bernards got 3 goals from Devin Ray. The Ridge boys head to the semifinal game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, playing the winner of Thursday's match between Immaculata High School and Rutgers Prep. Bernards next plays St. Peter’s Prep at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Franklin High School Sweeps at major track competition held at Hillsborough High School.
An estimated 650 or more students from high schools throughout the county came together for Tuesday's Somerset County Track Championships held at Hillsborough High School. The students participated in 15 events that included running, jumping and throwing, starting after school and continuing until the skies got dark. About 1,500 attended. Coming out on top of the boys and girls rankings were the teams from Franklin with the highest ranking Patch town Hillsborough, which captured a second for the girls and fourth for the boys. As part of a continuing effort to promote awareness of the importance of paying attention to mental health, the Somerset Hills YMCA on May 5 sponsored The Ripple: Swim to Newtown event, a community-to-community tribute to the families of Newtown, Ct. The goal was to swim 109 miles, which is the distance from Basking Ridge to Newtown — but the 150 swimmers who participated logged 230 miles, more than twice that distance. The youngest participating swimmer was four years old and the oldest was 82, according to the YMCA. Additionally, over 50 volunteers helped to support the event. A sunny day was a boost to the Somerset Hills YMCA's Healthy Kids Day this weekend, an annual community event that encourages kids and families to live healthfully and to stay active. Numerous community organizations and local businesses offered actvities and exhibits at the free event held Saturday afternoon at the main YMCA facility at 140 Mount Airy Road.
