Angry Taxpayer Who Works in Bedminster Makes $1 Payments

Man who moved to Pennsylvania over gripes about NJ property taxes finds grass isn't greener in the Keystone State.

Robert Fernandes moved away from Warren County to flee New Jersey's high property taxes in 2012. But what he found in his new home, Forks Township, Pa., was not an improvement, so hedelivered a little cheek with his 2013 property tax payment, the Star-Ledger reported.

Fernandes, who stills works for an information technology firm in Bedminster, was upset over having to pay school taxes when his three children are educated not in public schools, but at home, by his spouse. He struck back by paying his $7,143 tax bill in full, in person, using $1 bills, the article said, citing a report on LehighValleyLive.com. He also videotaped his act of protest and posted it onto YouTube.

The man equated being forced to finance public schools to having the government steal money from him.

"It would be the equivalent if McDonald's were to force vegetarians to pay for their cheeseburgers," Fernandes explained to LehighValleyLive.com.
