Teen Charged With Careless Driving After Ambulance Collision, Cops Say

A Bedminster teen was ticketed for careless driving after she collided with a Bernardsville First Aid Squad ambulance near the train station off Mine Brook Road, according to a borough police report.

The crash resulted in five people, including two in the car and three volunteers with the Bernardsville First Aid Squad, being transported to Morristown Medical Center, according to authorities.

The report also said Paige L. Arace, 17, who was driving a Jetta southbound on Mine Brook Road while the ambulance was heading northbound, told police that as she was about to turn left into the train station, she noticed a pickup truck behind her with its own emergency lights activated.

Arace then attempted to turn into the train station, the report said. As she crossed the northbound lane, her car was struck by the Bernardsville ambulance. At the time of the 3:05 p.m. accident, the ambulance had its emergency lights activated and the siren in use, the police report said.

Three volunteer first aid squad members on the ambulance received minor injuries, Police Chief Kevin Valentine said on Monday.

Korrinne A. Arace, 16, who was seated in the passenger seat of the Jetta, was taken to the hospital after being extricated from the car by the Bernardsville Fire Co. with the assistance of the Basking Ridge Fire Co. and First Aid Squad, according to the police report.

Police Lt. Demmings Hoadley said on Tuesday that the three volunteer passengers — identified as Kate Lincoln, 56, of Bernardsville, and John Orfan, 72, and Kathleen Greene, 35, of Basking Ridge — had been taken to the hospital. The driver, Robby Robinson, 60, of Bernardsville, was not included in the list of injured.

Hoadley said he did not have information on the conditions of the two girls on Tuesday.

On Monday, Valentine said that the ambulance had left the Bernardsville Fire Co. and Rescue Squad building further south on Mine Brook Road (Route 202) and was heading north to respond to a call for a carbon monoxide alarm on Post Lane.

According to the report, the southbound car was struck on the passenger's side by the ambulance. The accident took place at the intersection with Claremont Road, Valentine said.

Valentine said another borough ambulance also responded to the accident.

Borough Police Sgt. Brad Horsey investigated the accident.
