Lance Statement on Tax Day

As Tax Day Hits, ObamaCare’s Middle Class Tax Increase Set to Kick In

FLEMINGTON, N.J. --- Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) released the following statement regarding Tax Day, after a roundtable discussion with the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce:

“Our Nation’s tax code is a bloated mess that today gets larger – and more complicated – thanks to the start of ObamaCare’s individual mandate tax.  Millions of hard-working middle class men and women who already must navigate an outdated tax code now face new penalties imposed on them by the President’s health care law.  These families and consumers who will bear these new costs have nothing to celebrate this Tax Day.

“ObamaCare’s middle class tax increase will impose penalties on those who had their plans cancelled through no fault of their own, people who cannot afford insurance or young people who chose to save money and not pay for expensive health plans that include services and coverage they don’t need.

“This morning I met with small business leaders and employers in Hunterdon County where we discussed my belief that our tax code stifles economic growth and works against job creation.  It’s time to make the tax code simpler, fairer and more conducive to economic growth by closing loopholes, lowering corporate rates to compete globally, lowering individual rates and protecting the middle class from ObamaCare tax penalties.”
