Saturday Story Time--10:30 am.  Meets every Saturday morning.  Free family program.  No sign-up is needed.

 

Saturday Samplers--3:30 pm. Book discussion group for adults.  The book under discussion will be "Unknown Man No. 89" by Elmore Leonard.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

Story Time Sessions Begin.  Story times for children from birth to Grade 3.  Check the library website for more information.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

 

Tuesday, March 4

Home School Parent Panel--1:30 pm.  Parents who home school their children will discuss their techniques and share their knowledge of curricula, home school cooperatives and scheduling practices.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

 

Pre-Teen Crafters--6:30 pm. Children in Grades 4-6, earn community service doing craft projects.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

 

Wednesday, March 5

Chess Lessons for Children: Classes run on Wednesdays through March 26.  Beginners at 4:15 pm; players with experience at 5:30 pm.  Free.  Advance registration is required.

 

Friday, March 7

Splendid Life Meditation--10:00 am. Enjoy guided meditation led by Fauzia Burke.  Learn to manage stress, be more creative, and generally happier.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

Self-Published Authors Day--2:00-4:00 pm: Stop by to listen to local self-published authors read from their fiction and non-fiction work.  The authors are Gary Eddey (Weather House), Keith Hirshland (Cover Me Boys, I’m Going In), Cheryl Larkin and Kate Kurelja (Savoring the Shore), Rebecca Parkinson (The Mystery of Pocomo Meadows) and Alan Winter (Savior’s Day). They’ll also tell us what inspired them, about their writing process and the path to publication. Books will be available for purchase and signing.  Free.  Advance sign-up is requested.

Sunday, March 9

Sundays at Three, Colonial Music in America--3:00 pm: Anne and Ridley Enslow recreate the music of American history. Dressed in historically accurate clothing, they will play music of the American colonial period, using instruments appropriate to the period—an 18th-century violin for Ridley and hammered dulcimer for Anne.  They sing in harmony and tell stories of the times that gave rise to the music.  This is a free concert funded by the Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library.  Children aged ten and up are also welcome.  No sign-up is needed.  Just come!  Doors open at 2:45 pm.

Tea and Conversation with Novelist Jayne Anne Phillips--2:00 pm: Julie Maloney, Director of Women Reading Aloud, will conduct an up-close and personal interview with the author of the new novel sensation, "Quiet Dell."  Books will be available for purchase and signing.  Free.  Advance sign-up is requested.

Memoirs and Coffee--10:30 am: Book discussion group for adults.  This month, the book under discussion will be “Son of a Gun” by Justin St. Germain.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

 

Pre-Teen Maker Tuesday!--7:00 pm: Grades 4-6.  Bring a project or use library materials to get creative.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.

 

Tech Update: PowerPoint II--6:30 pm: Zoom, flash, fade!  Add sound, movement and automation to your presentations!  Learn some super easy shortcuts and bring your slides alive with animated effects, both graphic and textual.  Lots of tips and tricks will be included in this hands-on training seminar.  Prerequisite: Basic familiarity with PowerPoint.  Taught by Programs Plus, a software training company.  Free.  Advance sign-up is required.

Blairsden/Ravine Lake—1:30 pm: Author and lecturer W. Barry Thomson will discuss the creation in the 1890s of Ravine Lake and the construction there of the first home of the Somerset Hills Country Club, one of the country’s first golf clubs.  He will also cover the building of the adjacent Blairsden, one of the most beautiful and architecturally significant Beaux-Arts ensembles of house and landscape in America and the site of this year’s Mansion in May.  Mr. Thomson is the co-author of the 2-volume “New Jersey Country Houses: The Somerset Hills.” Free.  Advance registration is requested.

 

Homes of Distinction--4:00-7:00 pm: The Bernardsville Library Foundation hosts this fundraiser for the library at the historic Peachcroft, courtesy of Anne and Sal Giordano, the current owners.  Share food and wine, learn more about life in the Gilded Age, and bid on a wonderful silent auction item.  Sitting high on the Bernardsville Mountain, Peachcroft is an imposing fieldstone estate completed in 1907 for J. William Clark, president of the Clark Thread Company of Newark.  Tickets are limited and can be purchased for $100 per person.  Reserve now by mailing a check to the Library, payable to the Bernardsville Library Foundation.  Please include your email address to receive a confirmation and further details.

 

Monday, March 31

Origami Club--3:45 pm: Join friends who enjoy origami and make beautiful creations.  Grades 2 and up.  Free.  No sign-up is needed.
