Center For Contemporary Art Announces Fall Schedule

Arts center in Somerset Hills launches program for children with Autism spectrum disorder and other special needs.

The Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster announces its fall schedule of art classes and workshops which begins Sept. 16 and runs through December for adults and children throughout the Somerset Hills.

In addition, The Center has developed a comprehensive curriculum for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other special needs.

This fall, the CCA is offering classes for two age groups each semester for a reduced fee, thanks to support from Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Bernards Parents of Exceptional Children, according to Elie Porter Trubert, the CCA's executive director.

The fall schedule includes 48 classes and 13 workshops for adults, and 32 classes for children ages four through teens. Classes are offered for artists with all levels of expertise in a variety of media including oil and acrylic paint, pastels, colored pencils, watercolors, drawing, photography and ceramics.

“Art Sampler” classes offer beginners a chance to experiment with a different medium each week in a relaxed, fun setting. The growing ceramics program offers a variety of classes for children and adults in both wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramics, as well as raku and ceramic sculpture.

Fall workshops provide unique one day opportunities for local artists and run the gamut from an in-depth exploration of color in “Color Scheme Game” with Chris Carter, to learning how to market your art in “Building Your Online Presence as an Artist” with Lauren Smith. 

For artists and art appreciators alike The Center is offering monthly two-hour Chelsea galley tours, and a trip to visit the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms.

Gallery Hours

In addition, the CCA offers ongoing exhibits during public gallery hours. Those hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Mondays through Thursdays, and with additional hours on Thursday until 8 p.m. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The center in closed on Sundays and major holidays.

Artists from throughout the area are featured at the CCA's vivid and imaginative annual members' non-juried and children's book illustration exhibit. The show runs through Aug. 30. The CCA is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday through Friday.

Founded in 1970, The Center for Contemporary Art was known until fall 2010 known as the Somerset Art Association. The Center is a regional art center with a vibrant studio art school, extensive exhibition program and important community outreach component, according to Trubert.
