'More Than Me' Founder Honored for Work

Katie Meyler of Bernardsville recognized by New Jersey Monthly for work in Liberia.

Katie Meyler of Bernardsville was honored at New Jersey Monthly’s Seeds of Hope luncheon on on September 12 at The Crystal Plaza in Livingston.

The event was sponsored by PNC Wealth Management and The Crystal Plaza.

Meyler, who grew up in the Somerset Hills with a single mother, had earlier told Patch that she considered herself poor — until her work helping others showed her that many others around the world struggle to survive.

She has dedicated herself to assisting others across the world. Through her More than Me foundation, Meyler has created an international volunteer team that helps impoverished girls in Liberia attain an education. To date, about 100 girls have had the chance to go to school because of More Than Me. Meyler’s next project is a More Than Me academy serving 300 girls in grades pre-K through 12.

She was honored alongside Herb Ouida (Todd Ouida’s Children Foundation), Tricia Baker (Attitudes in Reverse or A.I.R.), Abby Hoffman (Elijah’s Promise), and Ellen Smith (Hackensack University Medical Center’s Hospital Elder Life Program or HELP) at the Seeds of Hope lunch. The event is an annual gathering held to salute individuals for outstanding achievement in philanthropy and volunteer service to their communities or to their chosen causes.  “Seeds of Hope is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to those who have made a true commitment to helping others,” says Ken Schlager, editor of New Jersey Monthly.
