Day Six Without Power Brings Little Change

Thousands are still in the dark in the Somerset Hills area.

With almost a full week gone since Superstorm Sandy battered the area, more than 10,000 people in the Somerset Hills are without power as of Sunday morning.

In Bedminster, 1,712 are without power, down from 2,958 Saturday. In Bernardsville, 3,351 are without power, down from 3,729 Saturday.

Finally, in Bernards Township, 7,856 are without power, down from 9,221 Saturday.

These figure are as of 9 a.m. Sunday.

For up-to-date information about when power is expected to be restored and how many will remain in the dark, check out JCP&L's continuously updated restoration report by clicking here.

And tell us in the comments where you are, and whether or not you have power at this time.

Anyone know when Spring Ridge is getting power? I'm 5 hours away, and don't plan on returning until I have a useable fridge and some heat. Specifically Potomac Dr.

Still amazed that our outage numbers have not changed while other towns are seeing power come on. Why the hell are things not improving. We need answers, at the very least we need to see JCP&L trucks in our neighbohood

JCP&L's "continuously udated" page provides estimates to tomorrow. And as of tomorrow, the majority of Bernards Township will still be without power. That's not much of an "information page."

Where is our effective local govt? There are no actual results, while other towns are seeing numbers bump up. Bridge and bernardsville are getting skunked. Mayors please don't be so polite and afraid to rattle some cages.

It is very disheartening to not see any JCP&L trucks in the area for 6 days. I understand no that this is extraordinary circumstances, but we aren't even able to get estimates for our specific area, numbers on a spread sheet mean nothing. Also King George Road is a county road and main road to access 78. Why wasn't its clean up a priority? If JCP&L's website had concrete info I wouldn't have these questions or frustration.

The mayor is ineffective. What has she specifically done to help? Time to vote her out asap. Is she back from Florida yet? Most of the Hills are dark. Many families with small children. Parents that pay hefty taxes to live here for the school system. If our lines run underground then why are we still dark? Its time for answers. Perhaps a march downtown with the news media present will get things moving. It no power by Monday I am ready to organize and occupy.

With an impending storm and snow next week, our local govt really needs to get to work. This is unacceptable. It seems like not even one phone call was made. Most of us with private wells and no water should be first priority!!!

Call the Mayor and raise hell! There has been zero communication form the town to residents. You would think they could print a flier and have the mail deliver it daily with updates, news etc.

I suppose the voting stations will all be operational though!

Somehow they removed the tree fallen in the king george road on Friday. From that time, till now no JCPL technicial has come to check the situation on the fallen wires. There are 2 or 3 fallen poles and they have to redo the wiring. Its completly ignored. I dont think spring ridge is going to get power before next weekend.

People, you have to call JCP&L and raise holy hell! I just did, the girl told me "she'd put in a work order" regarding the downed power lines on King George Road. Make a stink, we have to be our own advocates since no one is doing it for us, certainly not our property managers!! They're nowhere to be found. Could've had a generator at the club house, to offer up a warming station, at least.

I find that hard to believe Andrew. I've filed a power outage report twice online and once over the phone. Sounds like an excuse for their failure to perform

I also find it inconceivable that they could be unaware of their power lines being down on a major road that is also knocking out power to over thousands of customers.

You are correct, Andrew. As of about 10 this morning, not a truck in sight. I happened to be behind a Liberty Corner police cruiser, who was heading in the same direction, who had to stop and turn around on King George Road, like we all have to. Apparently even HE didn't know it was closed off?? Or maybe he was checking it out because the chaos on Mt. Airy Road to try and access 78, with the gas lines, is impossible. You'd think someone would at least put up a sign letting us know the road is closed, so we don't get off at Exit 36, only to find out we have to turn around and go back to Exit 33.

Why is there no assistance from the national guard, removing downed trees, and damaged power lines. National Guards from other states should be in New Jersey and New York State helping clean up the storm damage.

Gas stations should be forced by law to have generators.

I'm completely perplexed as to why King George Road has not been a priority as well as the Spring Ridge Complex. There are over 1000 units in the complex with a large number of elderly residents and not one JCP&L truck seen nor are we on the list or upcoming areas to be restored. There has to be roughly 2000 residents in the Spring Ridge community which is a 1/6 of their entire outage total after the storm. I just can't comprehend how they are prioritizing their repairs.

Most of the top of The Hills on the Schley Mountain Rd. side had power restored earlier today - Gatehouse, Crestmont Highlands, Signal Point. If you are out of town, I suggest checking with neighbors. Don't wait for a call from JCP&L! I was in their system for an automated phone call when power was restored and have not yet gotten a call.

It's obvious JCP&L hasn't done jack to improve their response since Irene. We have lost power since last Tuesday and based on their update seems like we'll still be in the dark for at least another 3-4 days. Meanwhile, I can drive 5-min to Bridgewater and power is fully restored. How the heck does the entire Hills community lose power for a week when all the power lines are buried underground?! Clearly JCP&L are doing something wrong! Poor emergency response, lack of information, and clearly snail path restoration!!!! Same as post Irene.

I don't know where you went in Bridgewater but power is definitely not fully restored there. Power has been out since early Monday evening in the whole Washington Valley Road corridor from 202/206 through (and including) the Martinsville section all the way down to 22.

What's especially troublesome there is that most of the homes have wells that run on electricity, so if you have water you're way ahead of all of us!

I live on Washington Valley road in Right off 202. A crew was working on the mess of wires on Brown road. The foreman explained Washington Valley and some of the side streets are fed through Brown road. Basically we are screwed. Plus most of this side of Basking Ridge has well water, including myself.

That King George Road mess by the A&P (Dewey Meadows) must be a serious wreck. JCP&L hasn't even gone near it. I can walk a mile or two in any direction from my home an there'll be power, but not in my neighboorhood.
